Hatchlings will be released Tuesday, June 2 at 6:30 am at Malaquite Beach at the Padre Island National Seashore. There will also be releases later in June, in July and August. To check the release information, call 361-949-7163, the Hatchling Hotline.
So here are the rules:
Call that number after 4 am. If they changed plans, it will say so on the recording. If not, then the release is on at 6:30 am. A Park Ranger will meet you at Malaquite Visitors Center at 6:15 and take you to the release on the beach. Do not wear white clothing, use a flash on your camera or bring food (it will attract the gulls.) If thunder storms are around, the public will not be allowed to attend.
